The best sketchbook Strathmore/Facebook
Strathmore makes exceptional sketchbooks with all kinds of paper, such as drawing, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, and more. }
I typically purchase the ones using recycled paper, but I have also used the pastel, charcoal, and watercolor pads for if I want a different texture of paper. No matter what media you choose, these sketchbooks can manage it.
Obviously, the typical paper will warp should you watercolors on it, but for any sort of pen, pencil, mark, or another drawing apply, it’ll do the task. The newspaper is a good thickness and weight.
The charcoal and pastel paper have a wonderful texture to them that really works for the softer media and good mixing. Starthmore’s costs are quite reasonable, too, which means you can sketch away.
Pros: Sturdy sketchbooks, Good newspaper quality, paper forms for different media, cheap
Cons: Larger sizes cost more, specialty papers have less pages
The Very Best graphite pencils Staedtler
The Staedtler Pencil Mars Lumograph 12-Piece Establish includes the graphite pencils you need to draw like a pro.
If you draw with graphite pencils, you realize that not all graphite is precisely the same. This Staedtler set comes with 12 pens in various hardnesses in 8B to 6H. For the uninitiated, the greater the number facing the B, the milder the lead. Conversely, the greater the number in front of the H, the harder the lead.
The majority of folks will use 2B, HB, and B the most, but should you require deep dark blacks which blend nicely, you’re going to need 4B and upward. For tough, light traces, H pens are ideal.
The pencils come in a tin for safe keeping, they are simple to sharpen, and they are comfy to hold — even when you draw for long periods of time. I have used dozens of graphite pencils, but Staedtler’s would be the best for the purchase price.
Experts: Bold graphite pencils, 8B to 6H range, affordable, long lasting
The best charcoal drawing collection
General 33-Piece Classic Charcoal Drawing Place has every sort of charcoal you need to create beautiful work.
If you are only getting started with charcoal or you want to try a new medium, this General charcoal collection has all you need, such as 18 pens, 12 sticks, a sharpener, an eraser, and a drawing pad.
Each pencil is labeled with its hardness level, and also the set has white charcoal pencils for highlights, too. The kneaded eraser is a great blending tool, but it can also erase any errors fairly well. The charcoal sticks come in a variety of thicknesses, so you may work big or small.
The sole charcoal types which are missing are blossom and vine charcoal, but those are specific resources which most people will not need straight away. I’ve used General charcoal pencils for years, and they’re able to produce some great sketches, despite the fact that they’re relatively affordable.
Pros: Large set with many bits, includes white and black charcoal, includes eraser, charcoal sticks and pens, affordable
The top colored pencils Prismacolor
The Prismacolor Quality Art Collection comes with 48 colored pens in exquisite, bright colors. You will also get a sharpener and a Latex-Free Scholar Eraser from the set.
These colored pencils are not like the basic Crayola ones you employed in elementary school — They are high quality, soft lead pencils with rich colors. You can produce extraordinary drawings together with these Prismacolor pens or you can colour in an adult coloring book to make a white and black layout come to life.
These are the coloured pens I turn to if I am not interested in black and white images .
Experts: Bold colours, a Great Deal of selection, long lasting, eraser and sharpener contained, affordable
The Very Best erasers
Prismacolor/Business Insider – Prismacolor Premier Kneaded, ArtGum and Plastic Erasers will eliminate any error you make.
This three-pack gives you a Kneaded rubber eraser, an artist gum eraser, along with a plastic eraser that’s latex-free.
I personally just use kneaded erasers, because they work with all media and they don’t discard eraser bits anywhere, but the ArtGum eraser is very good for stubborn graphite along with the Plastic eraser does not drop, either.
Because this set gives you all three, you can pick and choose which one you want dependent on the medium you’re working with.
Pros: Three Kinds of eraser, cheap
The best pastels
Sennelier creates the absolute best oil and soft pastels, however Van Gogh, Koh-i-noor, and Prismacolor are good alternatives. }
One of my favourite mediums is pastel. The rich, bold colors and easy mixing make for the ideal drawing experience. Of all of the pastels I’ve used, Sennelier’s would be the ideal. Its oil pastels, particularly, are magnificent. The richness of these colors is unparalleled and you’ll be able to feel that the oiliness of the pastel. I lust over them every time I got to the art shop.
But, Sennelier’s wares are extremely expensive, because they are among the best in the company in pastels. Because not everybody can spend countless pastels — myself included, alas — Van Gogh makes excellent oil pastels for much less, Koh-i-noor sells wonderful soft pastel pens, also Prismacolor makes amazing soft pastels to get an inexpensive price.
I mainly use soft pastel pencils, since the fine tip gives you more control over your drawing and nice detail. But once you’re working large and you need to mix, Prismacolor’s pastels are perfect.
You may even thin them with linseed oil, just like you would oil paint if you want a painterly look.
Pros: Beautiful oil and soft pastels, Fantastic variety of colors, powerful pigments
Cons: Sennelier’s pastels Are Costly

The best oil paint
Liquitex – Galeria Acrylic Paint 10 Tube Place are great starter kits for painting
My very first pair of acrylic paints was the BASICS set by Liquitex. The set includes 12 colors that you can mix to your heart’s content to create more colors. You really only need these basic colours to make every shade of the colour.
Obviously, this funding set is not that luxury, so if you’re looking for something a bit better, the Winsor & Newton 10-tube set is a great alternative. You’ll pay more for higher quality paint and powerful pigments. You can’t go wrong with either one, really.
Experts: Strong colors, affordable options, high-quality Alternatives, sets provide great value
Cons: Little tubes, can get expensive
The Ideal oil paint
Represent quite different price points to satisfy any budget
The priciest artwork you can get to is acrylic painting, but it is also one of the most powerful forms of art. Oil paint is richer than oil and it stays wet longer for greater mixing, blending, and use within the span of long-term projects.
Winsor & Newton create a good oil paint that is suitable for beginners or artists on a budget. Gamblin falls from the center, whilst Williamsburg’s handmade oils are considered one of the best. They are sold by tubes rather than by places, so you can select the colors you want.
The gaps are in the richness of these pigments, the oils used to make the paints, and the procedure where the paint is created. You can spend hundreds on small tubes of the best oils, but these 3 options will serve you until you become famous as Picasso.
Experts: Strong colours, cheap options, high quality options, sets provide good value
Disadvantages: Small tubes, can get expensive if you go with the high-end paint
The best brushes [DaVinci Brushes]
Regardless of what medium you paint in, da Vinci Brushes gets the brush you need. There are more brushes out there than can be put in a simple guide like this, but da Vinci’s products are rather inexpensive and long-lasting, so we’ve included them .
A few of the brushes are synthetic, although some are made from real animal hair and bristle. There is a lot of debate over what substances are best, but we have included a mix at different price points.
The main advice we have on brushes is don’t find cheap terrible ones that shed all over your own canvas.
Experts: Brushes for many media, comparatively cheap, no shedding, sets offer good value
Disadvantages: Real hair and bristle cost more
The Ideal canvas
Fredrix makes great canvas, and it’s almost always more economical to stretch your own canvas compared to purchase pre-made ones. }
If you are working in oil or acrylic, it is tempting to buy pre-stretched canvases and get it done. However, you can save loads of money — especially in the event that you paint on huge canvases — if you create your own canvases.
I’ve made canvases before, and it may be difficult work, but it’s well worth it.
Besides, you could say you made it in the end.
Fredrix sells canvas in several forms and dimensions. You can make it primed or unprimed if you prefer to do it yourself with a giant bucket of gesso or in the event that you only need a raw canvas.
Pros: Canvas is cheaper when you create your own, Fantastic Excellent canvas fabric, primed or unprimed
Disadvantages: Canvas is pricey, time-consuming to create
