“Before I tested myself for HIV/AIDS, I was sickly. I was advised to go and test for my status. I went and I was tested HIV positive. In 2004, I developed fear that I thought I would die. At that time, my husband was a police officer.
My mother and my sisters gave me a piece of advice that since I tested positive, I must go and join The AIDS Support Organization (TASO). I went there, and I was counseled and told to get my husband to also test. The counselor sent me to Kwapa Post Test Club where Madame Joyce Achipa lead their group. But I had fear of approaching her. When I grabbed courage, I found that I was not alone but with many other people.
I began getting encouragement and strength when we started music, dance and drama, hygiene and sanitation practices with AfA. These activities have helped me bring up my children since I lost my husband, and I am now strong. I can do my work and business like a normal person.”
