Artfully AWARE (AfA) is an organization that connects communities, collaborates with local partners and generates positive change in people’s lives through advocacy events and innovative community development projects. Who We Are: OUR WORK

Artfully AWARE uses creativity as an important tool for social improvement and emotional recovery of persons who have experienced traumatic events, disabilities or inadequate living conditions through our main program - The Storybook Project. Elements from previous workshops - including discussion, painting, photography, dance, theatrical performances, storytelling and music - have now been put together to form a complete holistic approach to working with communities. Through each project, AfA helps restore the lives of people by employing creative techniques that train rural communities in business skills and help build sustainable economic development. Who We Are: WHAT WE’RE UP TO

Artfully AWARE was personally invited to join The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), and now we are proud to say we are a formal member. Through them we will continue working on issues concerning global health, community resiliency and gender equality. One of CGI's content areas is Response & Resilience with a specific focus on resilience through the arts this year. Artfully AWARE will participate in events throughout the year, including the Annual Meeting taking place in New York City in September 2013. Currently, we are creating our formal Commitment to Action. We are honored to be a member of CGI, and we look forward to sharing our work within their community. Read more...

Partners: THOSE WHO WORK WITH US

We form strong local, national and international partnerships. We run programs by working together with community led organizations and businesses. We create and facilitate educational partnerships by linking with schools and educational institutions. We participate in festivals and develop advocacy events together with professional artists and performers. Partnerships are the backbone to all that we do. Past Programs: EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Since 2007, Artfully AWARE has developed and implemented dozens of programs in the United States, United Kingdom, Rwanda, Swaziland, Uganda and South Africa. AfA instructors taught various workshops that used theater, dance, music, media and painting techniques to educate, improve social-well being and assist in economic development. AfA has advocated over the years for human rights by creating and participating in numerous events and exhibitions. The purpose is to represent communities’ issues and challenges through celebrations of cultural diversity and identity. We strongly believe in the power of social action to build bridges of understanding between our own culture and the cultures of others. “I tested HIV positive in 2001. I joined Kwapa Post Test Club and also joined a savings program whereby they could lend me money and pay back with interest. Help to encourage our various activities.
